⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve been sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to dive into this series, torn between excitement and fear that it might be overhyped. Spoiler: it’s not. From Blood and Ash is everything I could’ve hoped for and more. Jennifer L. Armentrout delivers a story that’s as dark and enchanting as it is romantic and exhilarating. It’s the kind of book that pulls you into its world and refuses to let you go.
The gothic, richly textured world-building is one of the story’s standout features. Every corner of this universe feels alive, steeped in mystery and danger, yet utterly captivating. And the romance? It’s intense, it’s raw, and it’s unforgettable.
Let’s talk about Poppy. She’s unlike any FMC I’ve come across recently—soft and vulnerable one moment, fierce and unyielding the next. Her innocence is layered with a quiet strength that makes her feel so real, so human. Watching her navigate this world, discovering her courage and her power, was nothing short of inspiring.
And then there’s Hawke. Gods, I don’t even know where to begin. He’s bold, cheeky, and unrelentingly magnetic. Every moment with him crackles with energy—he’s playful and charming, but with just the right amount of edge. It’s impossible not to fall for him.
Their chemistry is off the charts. The tension between them is perfectly paced, building with every glance, every touch, every word. It’s the kind of slow burn that keeps you hooked, desperate for just one more moment between them.
Favorite quotes from this book were:
-“Death is like an old friend who pays a visit, sometimes when it’s least expected and other times when you’re waiting for her. It’s neither the first nor the last time she’ll pay a visit, but that doesn’t make any death less harsh or unforgiving.”
This line gave me chills. It’s such a beautifully haunting perspective on mortality, and it stayed with me long after I read it.
-“Some truths do nothing but destroy and decay what they do not obliterate. Truths do not always set one free. Only a fool who has spent their entire life being fed lies believes that.”
I loved the raw honesty here. It’s such a powerful reflection on the cost of knowing too much.
-“Promise me you won't forget this, Poppy. That no matter what happens tomorrow, the next day, next week, you won't forget this, forget that this was real.”
This one hit me right in the heart. It perfectly captures the vulnerability and hope wrapped up in their relationship.
This book swept me away completely. It’s dark, emotional, and full of heart, with characters and a story that linger long after the final page. If you haven’t started this series yet, trust me—now is the time. Highly recommend!
