Review: Bride

Bride Bride by Ali Hazelwood
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but here we are. Bride by Ali Hazelwood was an absolute miss for me. I went in hoping for at least some of the charm or humor Hazelwood is known for, but this book left me feeling uncomfortable and disappointed on so many levels.

First off, the themes in this story are…icky. That’s the best way I can put it. They just didn’t sit right with me, and I found myself cringing more often than not. The sex scenes in this book are so uncomfortable and off-putting, I actually had to stop and question why I was even reading it. Maybe I’m just not on the werewolf girlie train, but the whole thing felt icky and left me feeling gross instead of intrigued or entertained.

Beyond that, the plot was riddled with holes, and the character development (or lack thereof) was baffling. The inconsistencies in their actions and motivations made it impossible to connect or root for anyone.

The writing itself felt rushed and disjointed, lacking the polish and wit I’d expected. Honestly, I’m confused about why this book has been recommended to me so many times—it’s hard to see what others found appealing here.

I don’t enjoy giving negative reviews, but I also can’t recommend Bride. There are far better reads out there. Save yourself the discomfort and skip this one.
