Review: Tethered

Tethered Tethered by Elayna R. Gallea
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

0/5 DNF

I really wanted to love Tethered, but unfortunately, this book just didn’t do it for me—and I couldn’t even make it through to the end. It had so much potential, but in my opinion, it missed the mark in almost every area.

First and foremost, the FMC (female main character) drove me absolutely crazy. I could not understand her at all. The way she acted—especially with her backstory being a scholar and all—was so frustrating. She’s supposed to be intelligent, but in every situation where she needed to use her brain or think critically, she chose to ignore common sense and play completely oblivious. It honestly hurt my head at times.

The slow burn, which I normally love, was handled so poorly. It felt like the author was just dragging things out unnecessarily, probably trying to build tension, but it only left me feeling irritated and impatient. The pacing was just all over the place—too slow in some spots and way too rushed in others—and that killed any chance of me getting invested in the story.

On top of that, the writing itself was not great. The dialogue especially felt forced and awkward, which made it hard to get into the flow of the book. It didn’t feel natural at all, and that really took me out of the experience. I had to put it down because I just couldn’t get past the frustrating characters and writing.

Overall, I would highly not recommend this one. I really tried to push through, but it just wasn’t for me, and I couldn’t force myself to finish it. If you’re into well-developed characters and strong writing, this one might not be the book for you.
