Review: The Serpent and the Wings of Night

The Serpent and the Wings of Night The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay, so wow. This book was an absolute ride from start to finish, and I’m seriously obsessed with it. From the get-go, I was hooked by both the FMC and MMC—Oraya and Raihn are everything. Their dynamic is chef’s kiss perfect, and the slow burn of their enemies-to-lovers relationship was executed to perfection. You get that delicious tension between them, the back-and-forth, the pushing and pulling, and when it all finally clicks? It’s so satisfying. I was rooting for them so hard, and watching their bond develop made me feel like I was part of their journey.

And let me tell you, that plot twist at the end? Totally unexpected for me—and in the best way possible. I thought I had it all figured out, but Broadbent absolutely blindsided me, and it was so rewarding. The pacing throughout was just spot-on, and honestly, this book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It’s not just the romance that gets you; the world-building, the action, the emotional highs and lows—it’s all so tightly woven together, making this one of the best fantasy reads I’ve picked up in a while.

The ending? Oof, it was tragic and bittersweet, and I was left with a huge book hangover. I literally could not wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, so I went ahead and grabbed it right after finishing this one, AND I preordered the third book (which has already arrived and I’m diving in ASAP). Broadbent has me hooked, and I’m not going anywhere until I’ve devoured every single book in this series.

If you like the idea of a Hunger Games meets vampires story with incredible world-building, a slow-burn romance that will have you screaming for them to just kiss already, and a plot that keeps you guessing—this is your new obsession. Seriously, RUN, do not WALK to pick this book up. It’s worth every second and every page.

Favorite quote from this book? Oh, it has to be this one:

- “Fear is a collection of physical responses, I told myself. Fear is accelerated heartbeats and rapid breaths and sweaty palms. Fear is a doorway to anger, and anger is a doorway to power."

If that doesn’t give you chills, I don’t know what will. This book has so many moments like that—lines that make you stop and think and just appreciate the layers of the characters and the world.

If you haven’t read this yet, what are you even doing? Go. Get it. You won’t regret it.
