⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Okay, so while this book wasn’t quite as mind-blowing as the first, it was still such a fantastic read, and I’m honestly so glad I dove into this series. The continuation of Raihn and Oraya’s story was still captivating, even if I did feel like their relationship hit a bit of a road bump this time around. I’ll be real—there was definitely a noticeable step back in the development of their bond, and I was kinda bummed that we didn’t get to see their connection grow as much as I had hoped. Honestly, I think that’s what I missed the most here.
However, after reflecting on the story, I understand why their relationship was handled the way it was. Raihn’s personality shift? Totally made sense within the context of the plot, and it felt intentional. While I would’ve loved to see more of the tender moments between them, the angst didn’t take away from the bigger picture, and I respect the direction Broadbent took with their storyline. Sometimes things need to take a step back to move forward, and I can see how this set up a lot of the emotional stakes.
The ending, though? Chef’s kiss. I absolutely loved it. It was bittersweet, but in the best way possible. I’m so satisfied with how their story wrapped up, but at the same time, I’m sad to see it end. I’m not ready to let go of Raihn and Oraya, but I’m so excited to jump into the next book and see what happens with Mische. I already know that her story will pull me right back into this world, and I can’t wait to see what new twists and turns Broadbent has in store.
Favorite quote from this book, hands down, is:
- “I’m already more afraid than I ever have been. Afraid of you and what you could do to me. Afraid of the world that could kill you so easily. Afraid of myself, gifted with another fragile heart that I know I cannot keep. But, my little serpent, it is the most wonderful fear. Every minute with you is, even if I already regret all the mistakes I know I will make.”
Like, wow. That hit me right in the feels. This book had so many beautifully written moments, and that quote? One of the standouts for sure.
If you loved the first book, this one is definitely worth reading, even if it’s not quite on the same level. Raihn and Oraya’s journey still delivered, and I’m excited to see how the rest of the series unfolds. If you’re looking for an emotionally complex fantasy with a dash of romance and plenty of character growth, this book will definitely scratch that itch. Can’t wait to dive into Mische’s world next!
