I really wanted to give this book a higher rating, but it fell just short for me. The pacing was so slow in the beginning, and it wasn’t until the very end that the plot actually started to pick up and grab my attention. Honestly, it felt like a lot of buildup with little payoff, which was a bit frustrating as I wanted more from the story earlier on.

As for the characters, Freya didn’t fully connect with me. She made a lot of decisions that didn’t seem to align with her character, and I found it hard to believe some of her choices. It just didn’t feel like it matched up with what was established about her earlier on. That said, Bjorn was a total standout for me. He’s the reason I kept reading. There’s so much mystery around him, and I loved the subtle hints about his past. He’s complex and intriguing, and I’m definitely invested in his character and his story.

The plot twist at the end, while a little predictable, was still really engaging. I think it sets things up for a more exciting next book, and I’m curious to see how it all unfolds. Even though the pacing and Freya’s character were a bit of a letdown for me, I’m not giving up on the series just yet. I’ll definitely pick up the next one to see where things go.

If you enjoy stories with slow-burn development and characters who grow on you (and don’t mind a bit of predictability), this might be right up your alley. I’m hopeful the next book will build on the potential that’s set up here and give us more of what we want.
