A Court This Cruel & Lovely by Stacia StarkMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Y’all, why is A Court This Cruel and Lovely so underhyped?! This book has been chilling on my TBR for a while, and I knew I’d like it, but I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. The story is fresh, unique, and just hits different.
The FMC and MMC? Absolute chefs’ kiss. Their slow-burn attraction had me swooning, and even though the betrayal was kinda predictable, it was handled so well that I wasn’t even mad. The way their relationship evolves feels so natural, with just the right amount of tension and vulnerability to keep you hooked. Their chemistry is off the charts, and every interaction between them added layers to their dynamic.
Honestly, there’s not much I’d change about this book. It’s close to perfect for me—the twists, even the expected ones, kept me hooked, and the characters (and their backstories) were just chef’s kiss. The world-building? Immaculate. Stark crafted such a vivid, immersive world that I felt like I was living in it. The descriptions were lush without being overwhelming, and every scene had me completely drawn in. There’s a perfect balance of magic, danger, and intrigue that keeps you flipping pages late into the night.
The side characters deserve a shoutout, too. They weren’t just there to fill space—each one had depth and a purpose in the story. Their interactions with the main characters added so much richness to the plot, and I found myself caring about their fates almost as much as the leads.
If you’re into ACOTAR or Quicksilver, this is 100% your vibe. It’s got that same addictive mix of romance, high stakes, and emotional depth. Plus, the themes of resilience and self-worth hit so hard. The book doesn’t shy away from exploring darker, grittier elements, but it does so in a way that feels honest and impactful.
One more thing—the pacing is spot on. The story never dragged, and every chapter left me wanting more. There’s just enough action, romance, and suspense to keep you engaged the whole way through. It’s one of those books that sticks with you long after you’ve finished it.
Favorite quote? This one hit me right in the feels:
- “Don’t survive for anyone else. Survive for yourself. Survive because the thought of not surviving, the thought of letting those who would hurt you win, is so repulsive, you can’t stand it. Survive because you deserve to survive.”
Like, excuse me while I tattoo this on my soul. Stacia Stark, you’ve got a new fan.
