Review: The Throne of Broken Gods

The Throne of Broken Gods The Throne of Broken Gods by Amber V. Nicole
My rating: 100000000000 of 5 stars

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

Where do I even start? The Throne of Broken Gods by Amber V. Nicole isn’t just a sequel—it’s a breathtaking symphony of heartbreak, love, and perseverance that has completely consumed me. I thought I was prepared after The Book of Azrael, but nothing could have readied me for the emotional devastation and sheer beauty of this second installment.

This book took turns I never anticipated, and while the journey was unexpected, it was perfect in its own way. The pacing initially threw me off—it felt slower than its predecessor, and Dianna and Samkiel’s relationship seemed to regress into their old push-and-pull dynamic. But as I read on, I realized this wasn’t a setback; it was a deliberate, masterful stroke by Nicole to showcase the depth of their pain and the weight of their circumstances. By the time everything came together, I was in awe of how carefully and intricately this story was woven.

Dianna and Samkiel continue to be the heart of this series, and their connection is unlike anything I’ve ever read. Dianna’s grief and resilience left me shattered, while Samkiel’s quiet, unwavering devotion was a balm to my soul. The way Nicole portrays their love is achingly raw—it’s not clean or easy, but it’s real, powerful, and worth every ounce of suffering they endure. Their moments together felt like stolen breaths of air in a world determined to suffocate them, and when they finally came together, it was nothing short of magical.

Nicole’s writing is nothing less than divine. Every sentence feels alive, imbued with meaning and emotion. The world she’s created is vast and unforgiving, yet it feels so real you can almost taste the salt in the air and hear the crackle of tension in every interaction. Her ability to combine intricate lore with gut-wrenching human (and inhuman) emotion is unparalleled.

And now for the quotes—the ones that carved themselves into my soul:

-“You can’t hurt me anymore with words, Dianna. I know the heart that still beats beneath your breast. I’ve held it. You might as well surrender now because you cannot scare me away. You never could.”

This one? A declaration of love so unwavering it left me in tears.

-“Can we stay here until the sun sets?” I asked.

“Of course,” he said, resting his cheek against my hair. Neither of us said anything, watching the sun disappear beyond the sea, but something shifted between us. A piece that had been missing fell back into place. It was something cosmic, and I thought I heard fate whisper to me. Samkiel said he couldn’t fix a broken heart, but how could I tell him he already was?”

The tenderness, the quiet healing, the cosmic pull—it’s almost too much to bear.

-“How deeply you must love someone that death itself fears taking them?”

And this one? This one will haunt me forever.

If you haven’t started the Gods & Monsters series yet, this is your sign to drop everything and dive in. The Throne of Broken Gods is a masterclass in storytelling—a perfect blend of anguish, love, and hope that leaves you breathless. As soon as I post this review, I’m diving headfirst into the next book. Amber V. Nicole, you’ve officially ruined me for every other series, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
