Review: The Fabric of Our Souls

The Fabric of Our Souls The Fabric of Our Souls by K.M. Moronova
My rating: 1000000000 of 5 stars

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

I don’t think I’ll ever be the same after reading The Fabric of Our Souls. This book absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. As someone who deals with chronic mental illness, it hit so close to home that I felt seen in a way I’ve rarely experienced. The way K.M. Moronova writes is straight-up poetry—it’s like she reached into my brain and painted everything I’ve ever felt.

The storyline? Chef’s kiss. It’s about a guy who’s desperate to cling to life and a girl who craves for death, and they somehow end up in this super weird rehab center. They’re both such hot messes, but guess what? They’re exactly what the other needs to heal, and they have to face their demons together to find some kind of meaning in their lives. Oh, and if that’s not enough drama, there’s a cinnamon-roll best friend who’ll make you SOB, a murder mystery, and a bunch of past secrets that just won’t stay buried.

Sign. Me. Up.

Now, real talk—this book isn’t for everyone. It’s gritty, morbid, bittersweet AF, and dives into some seriously heavy themes that might be triggering for some people. But if you’re like me and you process life the way the FMC Wynn does, this book will have you in a chokehold. It’ll live rent-free in your mind and probably ruin you in the best way.

Let’s talk quotes because OMG, the writing is everything. Here’s one of my faves:

- “Why do you like these so much?” Liam asks, his chest pressed against my back, sending heat through my spine.

“It is a bit morbid, isn’t it?” I say as I caress one of the dry petals. “I think it’s because it makes me happy to see something that was once so beautiful in life be just as pretty, if not more so, in death. Forever beautiful.”

“You’re right. That is fucking morbid.”

Like, how does something so morbid sound so beautiful? I can’t.

Another one that gave me chills:

- “I take my time walking through the forest. The moonflowers have long since shriveled away into their deep slumber for the winter months, and now it’s just an empty field that a sick man visits each night.

Haunted, in a way. By me. That’s an unsettling thought.

It’s easy to lose time when you’re trapped in your past. I think of Neil and Perry and wonder where they would be in life right now if that night had turned out differently. Sometimes I hope if I close my eyes and wish desperately enough, I’ll wake up and this will all have been a dream. But, of course, I inevitably open my eyes, and I’m still standing in the field.

Still haunting it.”

If you’re into books that are offbeat, raw, and deeply emotional, this one’s for you. The Fabric of Our Souls isn’t just a book; it’s an experience. Thank you, K.M. Moronova, for absolutely destroying me (in the best way). You reached me.
